A Real-World Dog Chew Test — Is It Worth It?
Finding a chew toy that keeps your dog interested can be a challenge. In this hands-on Benebone Wishbone review, I share our experience with this uniquely shaped chew, how our dog responds to it, and whether I think it's worth buying.
Benebone Wishbone dog chew — our hands-on review and real-world experience.
What I Liked
Keeps My Dog Interested
One of the biggest challenges with dog chew toys is finding something my dog actually wants to use. The Benebone Wishbone has caught her attention, and I like seeing her enjoy it.
Unique Wishbone Shape
The curved, three-pronged design gives my dog different places to grip and chew. It's an interesting alternative to a traditional straight chew bone.
Easy to Hold While Chewing
As you can see in my review video, my dog can hold the Benebone between her paws while chewing. That makes the design especially appealing to me.
A Simple, No-Frills Chew Toy
There are no batteries, moving parts, or complicated features. It's simply a chew toy designed to give dogs something to work on.
Things to Consider
Choose the Right Size for Your Dog
Benebone Wishbones come in different sizes. It's important to choose the appropriate size based on your dog's weight and chewing habits. Check Benebone's sizing recommendations before ordering.
Hard Nylon Isn't Right for Every Dog
The Benebone Wishbone is made from tough nylon and is not edible. Because it's a hard chew, it can potentially damage teeth, particularly for dogs that chew aggressively or already have dental issues. If you're unsure whether it's appropriate for your dog, ask your veterinarian.
Supervise Chewing and Check for Wear
I recommend supervising your dog while using the Benebone and checking it regularly for damage. Replace it when it becomes excessively worn or develops sharp edges or loose pieces. Follow the manufacturer's replacement guidelines.
Who This Is For
The Benebone Wishbone is worth considering for dog owners looking for a durable, non-edible chew toy that keeps their dog interested.
I think it's especially appealing for dogs that enjoy holding chew toys between their paws. The wishbone shape gives them several chewing angles, and my dog seems to enjoy that design.
However, it's not the right choice for every dog. Dogs with sensitive teeth, existing dental problems, or a tendency to break pieces off hard toys may need a softer alternative.
If your dog enjoys firm nylon chews and you choose the appropriate size, the Benebone Wishbone could be a good option.
The Verdict: Is It Worth It?
My Verdict: WORTH IT!
The Benebone Wishbone gets a thumbs-up from me because my dog actually enjoys using it. I like the simple design, the way she can hold it between her paws, and the fact that it keeps her interested.
The wishbone shape is practical, and watching her chew on it tells me this is a toy she enjoys.
Of course, no chew toy is right for every dog. The Benebone is a very hard nylon chew, so choosing the correct size, supervising your dog, and checking for wear are important.
Would I buy it again? Based on my experience so far, yes. For my dog, the Benebone Wishbone is worth it!
